SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2010, 12:30AM (IT IS LATE FRIDAY NIGHT!!!! 12:30 am…which is kinda’ like Saturday already, but not)
Gene Lake embodies the contradictions of modern music. An all-around drummer, Gene Lake has worked with a diverse range of artists: David Sanborn, Meshell Ndegeocello, Steve Coleman, Marcus Miller, Maxwell, D’Angelo and Screaming Headless Torsos, to name a few. Critics have described Cycles, Gene Lake’s first jazz/funk CD, as “staggering”, “surprising”, and “out-and-out head slammin”. A blend of ballads and funk, Cycles reflects Gene Lake’s love of the musically innovative and adventurous. His latest jazz/funk project features guitarist David “Fuze” Fiucyzynski, Marcus Strickland on tenor sax, and the vocals of Freedom Bremner.
